June in the Chicken Coop

This month in the chicken coop...

It's broody season again with both Frog and Lemon making siting in empty nest boxes a full time occupation. This severely limits our egg count but it does give Lemon a chance to practice her grumpy lion impression...

Meanwhile, with all the lovely weather we've been having recently, the back door has been wide open on a daily basis. Pepper has been slowly getting braver about hoping inside for a look around whenever we forget our strategic wall of welly boots. The other day she sneaked in through the open side of our glass conservatory doors before trying to get out again through the closed side. She got herself in a panic because she could see the outside but couldn't work out how to get there. Daft bird.

And that's about it. A quiet month all in all.

  2. Ha ha, love the chicken photos, my sisters chickens try and get into her kitchen to eat the cat food, If the cat spots them she sulks and wont eat until its replaced.

    1. Sounds like a sensible cat ;) Hens will eat most things - and once they've discovered a source of something exciting they know exactly where to find it again!

  3. Not very bright sometimes are they? I once found a hen sitting upstairs in a bedroom looking totally unconcerned. I never did work out if she'd hopped up there herself or if one of the children had carried her up there.

    1. They are such characters, but as you say - not the brightest! I can just imagine your surprise discovering the hen upstairs...

  4. I think they are so adorable when they are poking around where they shouldn't be. I guess I have read too many children's books where the chickens are the main characters.
